The Crystal Guide
Everything you need to know about choosing, using, and caring for your crystals — without the overwhelm.
Where to begin
You don't need to know everything. Just start somewhere.
Crystals have been part of human ritual for thousands of years — used for grounding, healing, focus, and intention-setting across cultures and continents. You don't need to be a spiritual expert to work with them. All you need is a little curiosity and an openness to what resonates.
This guide covers the basics: what different crystals are known for, how to use them in everyday life, and how to care for them so they stay at their best. Think of it as a starting point, not a rulebook.
Common crystals & their properties
Find your stone
Amethyst
One of the most beloved stones for its calming energy. Often placed on a nightstand to support restful sleep or used during meditation to quiet a busy mind.
Rose Quartz
The stone of unconditional love. Associated with the heart chakra, Rose Quartz is used for self-love, emotional healing, and inviting more compassion into daily life.
Citrine
Known as the "merchant's stone," Citrine carries bright, solar energy. It's associated with abundance, motivation, and the confidence to act on your goals.
Black Tourmaline
A powerful grounding stone used for energetic protection. Many people keep it near their front door or workspace to create a sense of security and stability.
Clear Quartz
Called the "master healer," Clear Quartz amplifies the energy of other crystals and your own intentions. A great all-purpose stone for any collection.
Malachite
A striking green stone associated with transformation and emotional growth. Malachite encourages you to move through discomfort and into meaningful change.
Lapis Lazuli
An ancient stone used by pharaohs and healers alike. Lapis Lazuli is associated with truth, inner wisdom, and the confidence to speak clearly and authentically.
Tiger's Eye
A stone of action and courage. Tiger's Eye helps cut through fear, stay focused under pressure, and move forward with determination.
Using your crystals
There's no wrong way. Here are a few right ones.
Wear them
Bracelets and necklaces keep your chosen stone's energy with you throughout the day. Skin contact is thought to strengthen the connection.
Place them
Put crystals in intentional spots — your desk for focus, your bedroom for calm, your entryway for protection. Let them anchor a space.
Hold them
During meditation, breathwork, or a moment of stillness, hold a stone in your palm. Let its weight be a physical reminder of your intention.
Create a grid
Arrange multiple stones in a geometric pattern to amplify a shared intention. Crystal grids are a beautiful way to work with several stones at once.
Crystal care
Cleanse. Charge. Repeat.
Crystals absorb energy from their environment, so periodic cleansing keeps them at their best. Here's how.
Moonlight
Leave your crystals on a windowsill or outside under a full moon overnight. Gentle and effective for almost every stone.
Smoke
Pass your crystal through the smoke of dried herbs (palo santo, sage, cedar). A traditional cleansing method used across many cultures.
Sound
A singing bowl or tuning fork vibration cleanses without any risk to delicate stones. Great for clusters and larger pieces.
Sunlight
A short stint in morning sunlight charges many stones — but avoid this for Amethyst, Rose Quartz, and Citrine, which can fade.
Water
Running water cleanses many crystals, but NOT all. Avoid water for Selenite, Malachite, Pyrite, and any stone rated under 6 on the Mohs scale.
Intention
Simply hold your crystal, breathe deeply, and mentally release any energy you want to clear. Intention alone is always valid.
